Campaigning 101

I have been listening to voters for over a year now on the campaign trail. One of the overriding areas of frustration people have is how campaigns are conducted by the candidates and political parties.  Folks say that they are so tired of all the devious tactics and misrepresentations of candidates records that they don’t want to have anything to do with them or spend any valuable time watching the ads.
I have always been frustrated as a political consumer myself how petty and disrespectful campaigns devolve to, and when I declared my candidacy, I said to myself that I would do things differently with more respect for the process and for the participants.
Thus I pledge to you three things..
I will not engage in negative attacks on my fellow opponents in the Republican Primary or in the general election against the Democratic nominee. I will tell you what I believe and what I think Congress should be doing differently to ensure our freedoms and promote the general welfare.
Secondly, I will not invade your privacy with Robo-calls, which are those annoying calls from campaigns that we all despise.
And Third, I will not waste our paper resources on those glossy mailings that fill up your mailbox and just create more junkmail for you to sift through.

These may not seem like earthshattering policies, but they are important criteria for you to use when you make your overall judgement about who to vote for.

I am the candidate who is trying to change the way things are done and how politicians get elected. I will conduct my campaign in a respectful and dignified manner and you will be the judge of who you want to represent your values in Congress.

On Memorial Day

I will be attending my local Memorial Day event as I have all of my life because I believe in the importance of gathering together as a community to publicly say thank you and remember. We too often get caught up in our day to day lives and forget that we are here because of what others have done for us.

The oarsman on the small boats taking Washington and his men across the Delaware River. The infantryman on the front lines peering across “no mans land” just before the hopeless charge at Fredericksburg. The landing craft driver shuttling men under fire to the beaches of Iwo Jima. And most recently the soldier walking the streets of Bahgdad being killed by an IED.

All of these representatives of our defenders of our freedom deserve the hour it takes for us to show up, stand there quietly and say “thank you, I do remember”.
