This is a good example of where the federal government does have the best ability to deal with the problem. The borders must be secured, period. A physical barrier, a real one that works, must be built now. Besides the overall battle to balance our budget, this will be my highest priority.  Our country’s national security requires nothing less. Illegal immigrants when found, must be sent home. A serious enforcement effort must be implemented  to find and export all illegals.  Only then can the process of legal immigration have meaning and manageability.

We should expect assimilation. If legal immigrants wish to become Americans then they should conform to our way of life and our English language first. I would celebrate and encourage all immigrants, as my grandfathers and grandmothers were, to retain their heritage and pride of  their homeland and pass it on to their children. Yet, I would also expect them to teach the great traditions and values of this country first, and speak the language of this country first. They may, as we all do, practice the religion of their choice but Muslims must not expect any form of Sharia Law to be tolerated  in our Christian nation.
