Saturday morning on the farm…
A beautiful, cool, crisp late November morning here at the farm. The cows and chickens are fed and watered, the two younger children are watching cartoons, and the two teenagers are sleeping in after being out late.
Thanksgiving Dinner was a special time for all of us and the family that came to visit. We are lucky to serve food grown here on our farm, from the turkey, to the potatos, to the broccoli in the casserole. It somehow makes things more rewarding when you can set the table with the bounty of the farm, remembering the hard work that it took to raise and harvest it all.
As I catch up on the days news I see at the Politico.com website a story about the Tea Party movement and its growing pains. I am not surprised that there are those inside and outside the movement that are trying to capitalize and shape it to their own ends. Unfortunately, as with most things political, it has taken on an air of the Washington crowd that seems not to be able to do anything without trying to get money out of it.
There are good people who are trying to do good things, but they may be losing the national fight of identity with the core principles that the regular folks around the country are most interested in.
As the first Tea Party organizer in the State, I don’t want to have anything to do with these outside groups that don’t have the country’s best interests as their sole motivation. Money was not needed, not one penny, to bring 1000 people together on a cloudy, cold Saturday afternoon in March to speak our minds and make our voices heard about what we want our country to be and why we are angry about what Washington is doing to change our way of life.
I was the first to enter the race for a seat in Congress here in the 8th District, because I knew things were going to head in the wrong direction after Obama won in November. Events have proven me more right than I ever thought would happen.
The Tea Party movement is alive and well in this campaign and across the country as patriots for this country’s core values rise up and take action in each of their towns and villages. There will be a Tea Party event on Dec. 5th in Marinette planned by just such folks who aren’t connected with anybody but other good folks in their community who want to make a difference in their country’s future well being. I will be attending that event to lend my voice to the cause.
Hope to see you there.
