Where to start…

The November 18th speech on the House floor by Congressman Kagen is so full of mistaken ideas one hardly knows where to begin. Let me try…

He states that “…christian…religious fundamentalism is civilization’s  real enemy” What an outrage to all of those who have devoted their lives to reading and believing the word of God as revealed to them in the Bible. They are the enemies of civilization? Congressman Kagen is terribly mistaken.

He says that “overcoming violent extremists will require police work,…not our military”.  He has not learned the lessons of 9-11, and he is now back to living in a 9-10 world where terrorists don’t fly planes into buildings, they don’t cut the head off of reporters, and they don’t really want to hurt us, they just have grievances and are victims of bad U.S. foreign policies perpetrated by Bush. So, according to Kagen we need to send the police after them to arrest them and bring them to a fair trial like all the rest of us taxpaying U.S. citizens. This is a naive and dangerous view of today’s reality where terrorists will be happy to kill themselves as long as they take as many of us with them as possible, and where in their twisted world view  the U.S. is evil and needs to be destroyed. In fact our military men and women are the only one’s equipped to fight these threats to our safety.

He goes on to state that “there is no purely military solution in Afghanistan, …only a political one”. How does he expect those who want a peaceful election process to proceed if terrorists among them will use violence to never allow that to happen? Does Congressman Kagen not understand that peace and stability must first be secured by military power so that then, and only then, can a transition to a better society take place with a democratically elected government in control of its own destiny.  Our own country was founded in a justified war of freedom so that we could establish our own political system of government. We were not given it by a benevolent British government giving us what we asked for. We had to fight, just as the Afghani’s and all peace loving nations of the world are forced to do right now in Afghanistan to secure the peace to allow the transition to be successful.

Congressman Kagen simply does not understand the realities that we are dealing with. He lives in a 9-10 world. He needs to be defeated for re-election.
